Ben and Sarah Engagement Session - Sneak Peak

I had the pleasure of shooting Ben and Sarah, who will be getting married in a few weeks! We met up on the Marietta Square and took some beautiful shots. Ben and Sarah were great to work with I am looking forward to photographing their wedding on October 1. Here's a sneak peak from yesterday's session.
There are a few more pics posted here. The entire set will be available to view by the end of the week.

Reminds me of...

Today at work while...well, working, "Closer to fine" by the Indigo Girls started playing and anytime I hear that song I am reminded of my first trip to Dallas to visit my girlfriend Jennifer. It was Valentine's Day weekend and I had just rediscovered the song and was listening to it nonstop. It gave me great company on my late night flight to Dallas.

The trip was wonderful. I didn't take as many pics as I wanted to...I made up for that on my next trip.

This pic stands out....

This was taken at the Dallas-Ft Worth Airport.

I took this one before I left.

Next weekend I'll be going to see her again. And I'm going to be sure to take plenty of pictures.

Thanks for stopping by.

Weekend Review

I'm happy to cap off a VERY productive weekend! I'm very happy with the three shoots (one impromptu) and I have posted my favorite shots from this weekend.

My lighting kit made for very polished looking photos. Thanks to Rachel, Chris and Karina & Karina for great sessions!

Some shots from a stroll yesterday

I took a stroll yesterday with Courtney and Darren. We explored a parking deck and office building that Darren frequents. Not all the shots I took turned out that well, however I do plan on going back. I'd like to do a shoot there, soooo look out for that!

Start of my lighting set up

Today my Speedlight umbrella set up, triggers, and reflector arrived! And of course, I tried it out on my sister who is always willing to help.

This picture was taken with the flash, an SB700, reflecting from the open umbrella on the left and my father was holding a silver reflector to the right.

This picture was taken with the flash going through the umbrella almost like a soft box and made for nice shadows on the right.

Adding to the set up will be another speedlight and umbrella combo which should be arriving next month! Check back for more pictures from my shoots with weekend with Rachel O and Karina with a special friend also named....Karina. New Flash and lighting set to follow

I'm very excited to say that I have purchased a new Nikon SB700 Speedlight. This is the first part of what will be a portable lighting set up geared towards outdoor night photography and indoor portrait photography. It will be rounded out by a YN-560 (should be in possession by next month) as a slave flash/strobe, two umbrellas both with speedlight mounts, and wireless triggers. The first umbrella and wireless trigger should be arriving as early as Thursday of next week. I'm very excited as I have seen that good lighting is essential in making a picture, especially a portrait, look great. Below are a couple of sample pictures taken with the speedlight.

The first image is one of my sister taken in the foyer of our house. I positioned the flash upwards pointing towards the ceiling allowing the light from the flash to bounce and light up the entire area. This was taken in pitch black dark. I'd say that this is a pretty powerful flash and will do very well for event candid pictures.

This photo is of one of my mom's many angel figurines. I positioned the flash to the left of the object and triggered it with my pop up flash. I diffused the flash from my camera with a paper towel because I wanted the flash to create shadows on the right side. With the trigger I won't have to worry about my pop up flash and with the umbrella I'll be able to diffuse the light from the flash so it's not as strong.

Needless to say the next month to a month and a half should be very exciting. If you're looking for a photographer to do some indoor portraits or candid pics for an event, look no further!

Pictures and Politics...maybe?

This was taken back in November and I still remember that day rather well. It was a Sunday evening. I was still somewhat new to photography and I was still using my iPhone to take pictures. I took this using the Hipstamatic App on my iPhone. That evening I was wandering around Clayton County looking for interesting areas to snap. This place was right off of Tara Blvd going towards the school where my sister teaches. I'm not exactly sure of what store it used to be, but upon seeing it I had to stop and take a picture of it. I ended up having to park at a hotel down from it because there were concrete barriers blocking the automobile entrances. I took several once inside the parking lot; some of the construction equipment that was fenced in and a few of the building. This is the one however that stuck out the most.

I titled it "No more Black Fridays; Just Black Days". It was the Sunday before Black Friday and seeing it just made me think, no one else will ever set foot in this shopping center for a Black Friday Sale or any sale really. I take this to be a sign of the times. Unfortunately nothing has gotten better since then. With the stock market dipping and the credit rating changing, I feel that this pic is more relevant than ever. Hopefully this isn't our future. On a lighter note, Flickr says that this is my most 'interesting' picture.
